What are ByteChips?

We use a utility token called "ByteChip" as the currency for purchasing services on our Computing Platform. ByteChips are not considered cryptocurrency and therefore cannot be exchanged with users or third parties.

How can I purchase ByteChips?

You can purchase ByteChips packages on our Computing Platform (Wallet section), and you can compare prices and plans on our dedicated pricing page.

How many ByteChips do I need?

We provide a detailed pricing table for each application that shows the cost in ByteChips for every particular service. For example, for standard dimension video encoded with the AVC codec, our video encoding application charges 1.42 ByteChips per minute. However, if the resolution is higher or the codec is more complex, the price per minute may increase. Please refer to the application-specific pricing tables to get more information.

How do ByteChip packages work?

To cater to different preferences and usage patterns, we provide two types of ByteChip packages: Stock and Subscription. Both ByteChips can be used at your convenience across any application on our platform.

Stock Packages: These allow you to make one-time purchases of ByteChips, which you can accumulate at will.
Subscription Packages: With the subscription option, you can subscribe to a monthly recurring purchase of ByteChips. At the beginning of each billing cycle, a fresh set of ByteChips is allocated to your subscription. It's important to note that any unused Subscription ByteChips at the end of the month will expire and do not carry over to the next month. The Subscription ByteChips are stored separately in a dedicated wallet, which is always used with priority over the Stock ByteChips wallet. This ensures that you deplete your Subscription ByteChips before tapping into your Stock ByteChips.

Larger ByteChip packages are discounted over smaller ones, making it even more cost-effective for our customers to scale up their workflows. Additionally, subscription packages provide further discounts compared to the equivalent Stock packages, rewarding ongoing usage.

How does distributed encoding work?

Our grid computing system utilizes multiple devices running an FFmpeg Python implementation to perform video encoding. Upon uploading the video from the source, each device is assigned a 10-15 second chunk of the video to encode independently and simultaneously. This results in a significantly faster overall performance compared to standard cloud encoding, with all encoding parameters being equal.

Is using ByteNite safe?

ByteNite is just as safe to use as any other cloud computing service available. Our collaborative computing system is centralized and constructed with the latest secure technologies. Our platform relies on robust cloud security protocols, and all data transmitted to and from our system is encrypted. Unlike some decentralized computing solutions, ByteNite requires its workers to provide their personal information and adhere to our terms of usage before utilizing the platform. This requirement encourages the proper use of our software.

Is my data kept private?

Our customers' data will be processed by our distributed network, which involves sharing it with multiple devices located in different regions. Our advanced algorithm ensures that each device receives only a small portion of your data and retains it only for the time necessary for processing. Rest assured that no personal information, such as your business name or contact details, will be shared with the worker devices. We adhere to a strict security policy to safeguard your data from any unauthorized access or misbehavior by the devices.
